Biography / CVMonika Brors was born in Bad Liebenwerda in Germany and grew up in Angelmodde, previously an artists' village near Munster in Westfalia. She worked and lived for many years in Munster itself but went back to live in the country in Brock in the parish of Ostbevern, where, along with her husband, she shares an old half-timbered house surrounded by a sculpture park. The portayal of landscapes in watercolours and historical themes painted in a style unique to this artist are evidence of the breadth of subject material in her painted. Her personality is further defined by her deep bond with and love of nature, expecially the animal kingdom. This is strongly expressed in her paintings, her stone sculptures and bronzes and in an exceptional way. Monika Brors is a student of Guiseppe Del Debbio, profesor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy. Her bronzes are cast in collaboration with a tradiontal Italian bronze foundry outside the gates of Florence. An important characteristic of Monika Brors sculptures as well as her expressionist and watercolour painting is the intense personal relationship, the subjective bond of the artist to her chosen medium. This extends far beyond the artists preoccupation with the subject. Her works portray this subjective bond with an exceptional lightness. While Monika Brors creates an extremely complex world far removed from reality in her sculptures and expressionist paintings, then her watercolours reflect a particular perspective. She understands how to expertly capture the characteristics of a theme in delicate, light tones, the typical of a motif, a mood, an atmosphere. The artist works with fine brush strokes to bring out only some detail, the essential and instils into her paintings the effect and impression of spontaneity and fragrant lightness. The sculptures as well as the expressionist paintings and watercolours of Monika reflect her positive attitude and view of life. They draw the observer closer the "the Lightness of Being". | |
